Q: The citizens in Grandview and South Kansas City are hard-working blue and white collar employees--solidly middle-class, which seems to be a dwindling group. It has been reported that the income gap between the richest and poorest Americans is the largest it has ever been. What tax policies and/or cuts do you support in Washington that will help the middle class?
A:This is truly where the fate of our nation will be defined. If we continue to lose our middle class, if the gap between the haves and have-nots continues to widen, we are in trouble. The middle class, not the wealthy, are our nation's economic engine. From small businesses and factory lines, to food production, it is the middle class that has built and sustained our nation.
I will vote to continue tax cuts for middle class Americans. I voted to expand those cuts in the last Congress. I do not believe, as some do, that the wealthiest among us deserve additional tax cuts above-and-beyond what the middle class receive. It was some of the very wealthiest who got us into this mess in the first place.
