Q: Do you feel the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has helped the nation's economic crisis? What legislative ideas do you have that would help create jobs and spur the economy?
A: Economists agree our economic crisis would have been significantly worse had we done nothing. The Recovery Act created millions of jobs across the nation, thousands right here in our community. Ask the men and women working on the interchange in Belton, I-70 at 435, 470 in Lee's Summit or 350 in Raytown if they think the Recovery Act is working.
I was elected Mayor of Kansas City during another time of economic pain. We learned lessons then that we are using now. In the last two years, I have been able to secure hundreds of millions of dollars for infrastructure projects in our community. These investments have created thousands of jobs, including 1,200 youth jobs across the Fifth District this past summer.
