Issue Position

Q: Do you favor stronger restrictions on off-shore oil drilling? Would you favor a full moratorium?

A: As the Gulf Oil spill demonstrated, the way the off-shore oil drilling industry is regulated and monitored needs to be revisited and revised. I was proud to vote for the CLEAR Act, which will protect America's families and businesses, rebuild the Gulf Coast, hold BP and oil companies accountable, and work to ensure that a spill of this kind never happens again. The April 20, 2010 explosion is just the latest consequence of our country's crippling dependence on fossil fuels. We must move away from energy sources that pollute and destroy our communities and move toward renewable resources that will create jobs and drive our new, green economy.
