Q: What do you think is the best strategy to combat the jobless rate?
A: There is no single "magic bullet" to combat the jobless rate. Still, government can and should take steps to create demand, free up credit, and put people back to work. We have to rebuild our nation's bridges, roads, and aging infrastructure, which would put millions back to work. We've already enacted billions of dollars in tax credits for small businesses in this Congress--helping them hire unemployed workers, save money on employee health insurance coverage, and spur investment. We've also voted to close tax loopholes to prevent
good-paying jobs from being shipped overseas.
