Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement regarding the U.S. - Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA) taking effect today:

"Thousands of hardworking Arkansans earn their living from the export of Arkansas-made products to other countries. Last year alone, our state exported over $195 million worth of goods to South Korea. Starting today, Arkansas job creators will have even greater access to this critical market, which will strengthen our economy and create jobs."

Rep. Griffin supported the KORUS FTA when it passed the House in October 2011. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, the KORUS FTA is expected to increase U.S. exports by over $11 billion annually. Nearly 66,000 Arkansas jobs are supported by the exportation of manufactured goods, according to the National Association of Manufacturers.
