Van Hollen Statement on February Jobs Report

Statement

Date: March 9, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the Department of Labor's February Jobs Report announcing that the U.S. economy added 227,000 jobs in February:

"February's jobs report is positive news, and the last three months represent the best increase in employment since March 2000. But it once again underscores that we have a long way to go before our country has fully recovered. Putting Americans back to work and rebuilding our economy must remain our first priority.

"Unfortunately, House Republicans still refuse to take up the President's full jobs package, which contains provisions that would boost hiring and help American families. The President's plan to modernize America's infrastructure is a win-win -- it will provide a strong foundation for future economic growth while creating jobs today in the hard-hit construction industry.

"Democrats remain steadfast in their commitment to doing all that we can to help sustain our nation's fragile economic recovery, and we will continue to push for investments that will get Americans back to work. We have made important progress, but it is not enough. We must continue to fight every day to create American jobs."
