Congresswoman Hirono Urges Bold Actions to Create Jobs

Statement

Date: March 8, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawaii) today voted in favor of HR 3606, the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act, which passed on a vote of 390 to 23. This legislation is in line with President Barack Obama's efforts to support America's small businesses by making it easier for these businesses to access capital.

"I support bipartisan efforts to create jobs, even if the steps are small. Every little bit counts," said Congresswoman Hirono, a member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee. "But what we really need is for Congress to come together and take bigger steps to create jobs. Let's debate a real transportation bill that invests in our roads and bridges and let's boost our tourism industry by passing my Act. These are things that would get people to work quickly and help strengthen our recovery.

"The Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act is a bipartisan step forward to create jobs, but I am concerned about the effectiveness of its investor protections. I am hopeful that the Senate will address these concerns when it takes up this legislation."
