Congresswoman Wilson's Statement on Republican Changes to Florida Voter Registration

Statement

Date: March 5, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) issued the following statement on Republican changes to Florida voter registration:

"I applaud the U.S. Justice Department's review of Florida's election law changes, and I agree that a trial would bring the facts to light. The provisions contained in HB 1355 will simply make it more difficult for students, the elderly and minorities to vote, and eliminating early voting the Sunday before Election Day is plain and simply an attempt to suppress the Black vote. With no evidence of voter fraud to address, Florida's new voting procedures are simply meant to disenfranchise voters. I welcome this review, and I hope the election law changes are struck down."
