We are citizens. Not subjects.
H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011 has been considered by the House Judiciary committee and passed the House with bipartisan support 272 to 154. This legislation would require states that permit carrying concealed firearms to recognize such permits from other states.
I was pleased to vote in support of this legislation as a member of the House Judiciary Committee. Americans are citizens, not subjects. All Americans have the Constitutional right to defend themselves, their families and their property. This legislation would enable millions of law-abiding permit holders to exercise their right to self-defense when traveling outside their home states.
I will continue to support H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011, as well as 2nd Amendment rights.
