Statement from Congresswoman Hochul on the Extension of a Middle-Class Tax Cut for 160 Million American Families

The following is a statement from Congresswoman Kathy Hochul after the House of Representatives today passed an extension of the Payroll Tax Cut for 160 million Americans:

"Today, the House of Representatives finally came together, in a bipartisan manner, and voted to support a middle-class tax cut for 160 million middle-class American families. This crucial tax relief will save the average American $1,000 each year, and save the average New Yorker $1,100 each year.

"While today's vote will provide critical tax savings to Western New York's families, it is long overdue. Our constituents are tired of Washington's partisan bickering, and today's extension should have come last year before Congress recessed for the holidays.

"This common sense, bipartisan compromise is exactly the type of deal the American people deserve from us, and we owe them no less."

The House today passed the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act by a vote of 293-132 and the Senate passed the bill shortly after by a vote of 60-36. The bill extends the 2% Payroll Tax Cut through the end of the year. The conference report now goes to President Barack Obama for his signature.
