U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today issued the following statement as the U.S. Treasury Department prepared to present $30 million in seized assets from a former Mexican drug cartel boss to the Texas law enforcement agencies responsible for bringing him to justice:

"These funds are landing today right where they should -- with those who take daily risks to keep Texans safe and put a stop to drug trafficking and gang violence. This seizure was the result of cooperation, perseverance, and good old-fashioned police work, and I commend these agencies for working together to fight drug trafficking in south Texas."
