Capito to Vote for Tax Relief for West Virginia Families 2/17/12

Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., will vote for the bipartisan payroll tax holiday. The agreement is the result of tough negotiations which sometimes lasted into the early morning hours. Capito, co-founder of the Congressional Civility Caucus, is pleased to see that both parties were willing to come to an agreement.

"This is good news for West Virginians. Instead of paying hundreds of dollars more in taxes, 160 million families can budget that money for necessities like gas and groceries. Three years ago this week the President's failed "stimulus' package was signed into law. Since then, unemployment has averaged 9.3 percent. Our economy is still struggling--we absolutely can't hit middle class families with a tax increase," stated Capito.

On top of needed tax relief, this agreement also reforms and extends unemployment benefits and averts a massive cut to physician payment rates--all while protecting the Social Security Trust Fund.

"I participated in a special hearing on aging in Charleston on Monday and was reminded--as I always am--how important it is to ensure our Seniors are taken care of. This agreement ensures doctors who treat Medicare patients don't see their reimbursement rates slashed, ensuring our Seniors have access to good doctors and good healthcare," stated Capito. "I was adamant that the Social Security Trust Fund be protected in this plan. My initial concerns were alleviated."
