U.S. Rep. Gary Peters responds to Mitt Romney Op-ed in Detroit News

Today U.S. Rep. Gary Peters responded to Mitt Romney's op-ed in the Detroit News about the auto rescue package. Peters, whose district includes Chrysler World Headquarters as well as Mitt Romney's hometown, worked with President Obama to ensure that GM and Chrysler received the loans necessary to save millions of jobs and lead the economic recovery.

"Mitt Romney touts his private sector experience, but he is willfully ignorant of the facts when it comes to the auto rescue," said U.S. Rep. Gary Peters. "The fact is that there was no source of private capital to restructure GM and Chrysler and the working men and women of the UAW made enormous sacrifices to secure the future of the companies. Had President Obama not acted, GM and Chrysler would be in the rearview mirror rather than helping to lead our economic recovery. Mr. Romney's values may prioritize private equity investors before the jobs and pay of auto workers, but those aren't Michigan values. Mitt Romney may have grown up drinking Vernors, but clearly he forgot where he came from."
