REP. THORNBERRY 'A WISE CHOICE' FOR INTELLIGENCE PANEL, CORNYN SAYS

'Like so many other times in his service to the nation, Mac will excel in this new challenge'

WASHINGTON-U.S. Senator John Cornyn, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee's Emerging Threats and Capabilities subcommittee, made the following statement Tuesday regarding the Speaker of the House appointing Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence:

"Speaker Hastert made a wise choice by naming Mac Thornberry to the Intelligence Committee, a panel that has rapidly grown in importance in recent years. More than three quarters of our nation's intelligence budget is utilized by the Department of Defense, and Mac's decade of experience on the Armed Services Committee, and emerging leadership on the Homeland Security panel will be an important addition to this critical committee.

"Like so many other times in his service to the nation, Mac will excel in this new challenge, and Texas will have an even stronger voice in our nation's homeland security efforts."
