Amodei Votes for Congressional Pay Freeze

Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) today voted in favor of H.R. 3835, to extend the current pay freeze for Members of Congress and federal employees for an additional year. The commonsense measure cleared the two-thirds majority needed for passage, 309 to 117. Amodei also voted yes on H.Res. 496, to cut the budgets for House leadership offices and committees by 5% from the previous Congress.

"Bottom line: Americans and Nevadans have tightened their belts. The federal government better do the same," said Amodei.

Earlier this Congress, Amodei supported a provision to cut his personal office's operating budget by 6.4% from the previous year, which was on top of a 5% cut from the year before that.

On Tuesday, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its Annual Budget and Economic Outlook, which projects that the federal budget deficit will exceed $1 trillion for the fourth year in a row. The CBO also estimates that economic growth will remain sluggish and that the national unemployment rate will exceed nine percent in both 2013 and 2014.
