This week, House Republicans doubled down on their pledge to let Medicare "wither on the vine," leading to an end of the guarantee and an increase in costs for our seniors. But House Democrats--as we have for 45 years--will fight vigorously to protect and strengthen Medicare for today's seniors and future generations.
While the GOP continues to prioritize ending the Medicare guarantee, my Democratic colleagues and I are focused on the immediate concerns of the American people. Congress must pass legislation to extend the payroll tax cut, extend unemployment benefits for millions of Americans, and ensure seniors on Medicare can keep their doctor. In San Francisco, the payroll tax cut extension will put more than $1,400 in the pockets of the average working family. It is time to act.
