U.S. Rep. Gary Peters Applauds President Obama's Blueprint to Strengthen the Middle Class by Investing in 21st Century Manufacturing Jobs

Tonight following the State of the Union address, U.S. Rep. Gary Peters applauded President Obama's blueprint to strengthen the middle class by investing in American manufacturing for the Greater Detroit area. At the State of the Union address, Detroit native and Plant Manager for GM's Orion Assembly and Pontiac Stamping, Alicia Boler-Davis sat with First Lady Michelle Obama. Also in attendance as a guest of U.S. Rep. Peters was UAW Region 1 Director Chuck Hall. With both the top GM official and the top UAW official representing the Orion Plant in attendance, Peters highlighted the success and shared sacrifice of the workers and management in saving the Orion plant.

After the speech, U.S. Rep. Peters issued the following statement.

"Tonight President Obama clearly laid out a blueprint to help grow the middle class by investing in American manufacturing and American workers," said U.S. Rep. Gary Peters."Having both GM Orion Assembly Plant Manager Alicia Boler-Davis and UAW Region 1 Director Chuck Hall here tonight is very special because the Orion plant would have shut down without President Obama's work to save Michigan's auto manufacturing and the shared sacrifice of GM's management and labor."

"I was glad the White House highlighted the reopening of the Orion Assembly Plant, and proud to be the invited guest of U.S. Rep. Peters because of his successful work to help keep the Orion Plant open," said Chuck Hall, UAW Region 1 Director."As we've done in the past, we need to continue working together to create new manufacturing jobs and strengthen our economy."
