Delay of SOPA, PIPA Welcome News for Internet Freedom

Statement

Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO) released the following statement on news that the markup of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Senate's consideration of the Protect IP Act (PIPA) will be delayed.

"This is welcome news for Americans who care about job creation and preserving free speech on the Internet. The American people deserve the credit for telling Congress in no uncertain terms that SOPA and PIPA are anathema to the concept of an open Internet where commerce and ideas can flourish. I am hopeful that Republicans and Democrats can work together to coalesce around a better solution to foreign piracy -- the OPEN Act. We can combat the theft of intellectual property while also protecting Internet freedom."
