Happy New Year!

As the 112th Congress enters its second session there is no issue more vital than unleashing the power of America's small businesses. The faster that Washington moves out of the way, the faster we will see small businesses flourish and American's back on the job.

Next week, President Obama will give his third State of the Union address on his legislative agenda and national priorities for the year, and I hope he takes note that small businesses don't want to hear about more proposals, federal programs, or directives-- they want to be set free. Free to prosper without costly government interference.

As the House Small Business Committee moves forward with hearings and legislative proposals this year, fostering an environment where small businesses can grow uninhibited will be our goal. We look forward to helping small businesses reach their potential by offering legislation to aid and bring transparency to federal contracting, providing oversight of small business lending and trade programs, and advocating for lower taxes and a simpler tax code. It's past time for the government to get out of the way so the private sector can flourish and get us back to the prosperous America that we are accustomed to.
