Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement on the agreement to extend the payroll tax credit and unemployment insurance:

This is a victory for families in Maine and across the country. This puts an extra $40 a week back in the pockets of working families and helps those still looking for work make ends meet while they get back on their feet.

I'm pleased that Republicans have finally listened to the American people and have dropped their partisan opposition to extending the payroll tax cut and unemployment insurance, and I hope they will work with us to extend these programs for an entire year.
