Fleming Votes No on Year-End Spending Bill

Statement

Date: Dec. 16, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman John Fleming, M.D., (LA-4) released the following statement after voting today against a $1 trillion spending bill.

"House Republicans have made progress this year in trying to reverse the tide of out-of-control spending by Democrats and President Obama that pushed our national debt past $15 trillion. Unfortunately, today's measure did not go far enough. The final numbers were $24 billion higher than those proposed in the Ryan budget resolution that was passed by the House in April. In addition, today's bill left out an important pro-life provision that would have protected health care providers from being forced by the government to provide abortions, and it left out many riders that would have blocked new job-destroying EPA regulations."
