Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) released the following statement after the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down a 2010 Oklahoma ballot initiative that banned Sharia law:
"I applaud the court for standing up for common sense and the Constitutional rights of all Americans.
"The Islamophobic campaign against the so-called "threat' of Shariah law in America has always been a solution in search of a problem. No court, state legislature, city council, or municipality has tried to supplant U.S. law with Shariah law. Rather, this is a campaign by a fringe group of political opportunists trying to stoke divisions and fear.
"The Constitution ensures that our government does not favor one religion over another. This guarantee has created one of the most vibrant and free societies in the world. I applaud the court for reaffirming that America is one nation with liberty and justice for all."
