"I'm pleased that officials with Sunrise Bank have decided to continue offering their wire service to Somalia for an additional 15 days.

"At a time when tens of thousands of Somalis are enduring the worst famine in decades it is vital that Somali-Americans have every option possible to send financial support back to their families.

"My office has contacted officials at the U.S. Treasury Department and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Sunrise Bank's regulator, to find a solution so the bank will be able to continue serving the hawalas.

"I commend the officials of Sunrise Bank for their effort to work with the community on this important issue."
