Today Rep. Gary Peters responded to Rep. Allen West's inflammatory remarks comparing the agenda of Democrats in Congress to infamous Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.
Mr. West recently said: "If Joseph Goebbels was around, he'd be very proud of the Democrat Party because they have an incredible propaganda machine. I think that you have, and let's be honest, you know, some of the people in the media are complicit in this, in enabling them to get that type of message out."
"Allen West's statements are shameful and an insult to the memory of the 6 million Jews and millions of others who perished in the Holocaust," said Rep. Gary Peters. "His statements diminish their memory and disgrace the United States Congress. I am proud to represent a strong vibrant Jewish community in my district, as well as the first free-standing Holocaust museum in the United States. That museum keeps alive the memory of an atrocity so unspeakable -- so that we will never forget. Allen West should apologize to the survivors of the Holocaust across the country, whose painful memories he so senselessly demeaned. If he refuses, his Republican colleagues, including Majority Leader Eric Cantor, should demand an apology as Congressman West's rhetoric is beneath the office he holds."
