Smith Supports the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act

On November 29, Congressman Adam Smith supported passage of H.R. 3012, the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act, in the House of Representatives.

The bill eliminates the per-country cap for employment-based immigrant visas. It also raises the per-country cap for family-sponsored immigrant visas to 15% of the total number of these visas made available in that same year. If enacted, this would be a significant change in current law, which limits the number of family sponsored and employment-based immigrants visas available to citizens from any single country to 7% of the total number of such available visas in a given year.

"Changing this law removes an unnecessary headache for business owners and allows them to focus on more important goals, like building a successful business. This legislation will help the United States continue to remain highly innovative and competitive globally in developing new technology and fostering trade," said Rep. Smith.
