Rep. Todd Young (R-IN9) issued the following statement ahead of a late afternoon vote on the REINS Act, a bill he co-sponsored and has heavily promoted for the past year. The bill, H.R. 10, would require any federal agency rule or regulation with an estimated impact on the economy of $100 million or more to come to Congress for an up-or-down vote.
"I think there's a lot of agreement that some regulation is good and necessary in our economy, but our process has become fundamentally flawed," said Young. "These big regulations can have a detrimental effect on the economy and job creation, and there's very little Congress or the American people can do if they think the regulations go too far. In a lot of instances we've given some of these agencies and the unelected people who work at them unchecked power."
The REINS Act was one of the first pieces of legislation Young signed on to as a member of Congress. He released a video earlier in the week explaining the legislation to constituents. That video can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4o1-U34mZ0.
