On Thursday, November 17, 2011, I had the privilege of speaking at Small Business Day hosted by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization. As our nation continues its recovery from the current economic crisis, we must not forget that our economy depends on the active involvement of small business owners and entrepreneurs. As a Member of the House Small Business Committee, I have supported our disadvantaged, women, and veteran-owned businesses. For example, I introduced H.R. 2921, the Expanding Opportunities for Small Business Act of 2011. As the Supercommittee works on to reign in our national deficit --we could find ourselves in a situation where across-the-board cuts threaten our small businesses. I am determined to ensure that small business communities throughout the country have the resources to succeed in our economy.
