Rep. Gus Bilirakis (FL-09) is calling on his colleagues in the House to support the REINS Act, which will help curb job-destroying regulations by requiring congressional approval for any federal regulation with an economic impact of $100 million or more. The House is expected to vote on the legislation Wednesday afternoon.
"For too long, unelected Washington bureaucrats have imposed huge costs on the economy and the American people through burdensome regulations," Bilirakis said. "This must stop in order to help spur economic growth in the Tampa Bay area and around the country. The REINS Act will help ensure that there is a thoughtful review of new government regulations which could impede our economy."
At the end of 2010, the Obama Administration listed more than 4,200 regulations, and in 2011 proposed another 200 regulations costing at least $100 million each. According to the Small Business Administration, regulations cost our economy $1.75 trillion per year.
