Statement on Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction

Statement

Date: Nov. 22, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Laura Richardson (CA-37) Released the Following Statement on the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction:

"It is bitterly disappointing and disheartening that the Joint Select Committee was unable to reach a fair and balanced agreement that would address this nation's deficit problem and put us back on track."

"The Democratic members of the Super Committee rolled up their sleeves and came to the table in good faith, willing to make the necessary tough decisions and sacrifices to move our country forward. Sadly, it appears the same cannot be said of their Republican counterparts."

"The people of my district cannot afford to wait. They want action now. Republicans appear to be more concerned with defeating the President in the next election than winning for the American people now. The failure of the Super Committee to reach a compromise strikes another devastating blow at American men and women who are struggling to find jobs. Unemployment still hovers around 20% in some parts of my district."

"We must continue to work towards a balanced and fair approach, and stop protecting the millionaires and billionaires at the expense of hard working American families. Our focus should be to get Americans back to work."
