Keystone XL Pipeline: Good for Jobs, Good for Texas

Statement

If built, the Keystone XL pipeline would create thousands of jobs and bring over 700,000 barrels of oil per day from Canada and the Bakken region of the U.S. to refineries along the Gulf Coast, including one in Houston and another in Port Arthur. Unfortunately, earlier this month the Obama Administration decided to punt the decision on whether or not to approve the pipeline till 2013.

I think it's time for the President to stop playing politics with this and make a decision. This week, I signed on as an original co-sponsor to S.1932, the North American Clean Energy Act, which would require the President to make a decision on the project within 60 days. The truth is, building the Keystone XL will be good for the economy, good for national security, and good for Texas. This bill would require the President to decide whether or not that's good enough for him, rather than allowing him to stall until after the election.
