National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011

Statement

This week, I authored an amendment to the National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act. My measure would respect the careful considerations made by states across the country that do not want anyone under age 21 to carry a concealed firearm. More than 35 states prohibit teenagers from carrying concealed loaded firearms. The National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act would override these laws and allow teenagers to carry concealed, loaded guns in public in 49 states. My amendment would protect those state's rights. Without it, a state that doesn't allow its own residents under 21 to carry loaded guns would be forced to accept a permit carried by a teenager from another state and would be forced to allow that teenager to carry a concealed, loaded firearm within its boundaries -- and that is unacceptable. I was the author of Tennessee's Right-to-Carry bill while serving in the Senate.
