Schumer Announces Over $3 Million for Public Housing in Binghampton

SCHUMER ANNOUNCES OVER $3 MILLION FOR PUBLIC HOUSING IN BINGHAMTON

Funds will be used for variety of purposes, such as creating emergency homeless shelters, and expanding affordable housing for low-income families

US Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded $3,715,344 in funding to the city of Binghamton to be used to bolster public housing in Binghamton. Schumer said that the funds will help more families in Binghamton obtain higher quality homes.

"This funding will allow local authorities to make public housing facilities in the area better places to call home," said Schumer. "These programs will help public housing residents have more options and a real chance to take control of their lives. I look forward to working with the Binghamton housing authorities to ensure the success of these programs."

Because of today's award, the city of Binghamton will receive:

•$2,825,000 from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to provide housing and to expand economic opportunities for urban communities

•$105,166 from the Emergency Shelter Grant program (ESG) to improve the quality and quantity of emergency homeless shelters

•$785,178 from the Home Improvement Partnership Program (HOME) to help expand affordable housing to low and very low-income families
