U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today issued the following statement in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday:
"As we pause to consider our many blessings this Thanksgiving, I hope we can each express our gratitude to the millions of men and women who have volunteered to serve our nation in the Armed Services. This holiday season will see the return home of thousands of America's heroes from across the globe. These will include units returning from Afghanistan as well as some 40,000 service members from Iraq, who are concluding our nation's 9-year mission there. Let's welcome all of these brave men and women with open arms and let them know that so much of what we have to be thankful for was secured because of their selflessness. As Abraham Lincoln wrote to the Army on December 22, 1862, "I tender to you, officers and soldiers, the thanks of the nation.'
"From my family to yours, I wish you a very happy Thanksgiving."
