Rokita Votes for Legislation to Create Jobs, Protect Taxpayers, Fix Unattended Consequence of Obamacare

Today Rep. Todd Rokita voted for H.R. 674, legislation he co-authored, to help create an environment more favorable to economic growth by eliminating the 3 percent withholding requirement scheduled to go into effect in 2013 on payments made to contractors by federal, state and local governments. Rokita also voted for H.R. 2576, legislation to protect taxpayers by preventing millions of middle class Americans from qualifying for Medicaid as a result of Obamacare.

"These bills are important because they prevent an $11.2 billion tax increase that will cost Americans jobs. In addition, they close an unintended loophole buried deep in the 900 page monstrosity that is Obamacare, saving taxpayers $21.7 billion by preventing Americans making much as $60,000 per year from qualifying for Medicaid," Rokita said.

"Together, these pieces of legislation will help create jobs and save taxpayers money, which is critical at a time families and businesses are faced with record unemployment, a heavy tax burden and a national debt surpassing $15 trillion."

H.R. 674 passed by a wide bipartisan majority 405 to 16. H.R. 2576 also passed by a bipartisan majority, 262 to 157.
