U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement in observance of Veterans Day. Senator Ayotte participated today in an official Veterans Day ceremony at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, where she also led a Purple Heart medal presentation ceremony. She is pictured above with Orford resident John O'Brien, who received his second Purple Heart medal for injuries he sustained during his service in Vietnam. Later in the day, Senator Ayotte packed troop care packages in Nashua with MooreMart volunteers.
Senator Ayotte's statement follows:
"Today I join citizens across New Hampshire in honoring the generations of brave servicemen and women who have dedicated themselves to advancing the cause of freedom. Their bravery and commitment to the ideals for which this nation stands serve as an inspiration to us all, and they have earned the enduring gratitude of all Americans.
"When we send our service members off to war, we make a promise that we will keep them in our minds and in our hearts while they're away, and take care of them when they come home. And for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, we have a solemn duty to never forget their courage and to always honor their legacy. Let us take time today to remember the Granite State citizens and all Americans who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
"Let us also be mindful of America's future veterans - the soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen who are now deployed around the world - including members of the New Hampshire National Guard, who recently completed their largest deployment since World War II. Our country remains at war, and we must remain united behind our troops."
