Ayotte Votes in Support of Legislation to Help Put America's Veterans Back to Work

Statement

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today voted in support of the VOW to Hire Heroes Act (S. A. 927), legislation that aims to put America's veterans back to work. The legislation passed the Senate by an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote of 94-1.

Senator Ayotte's statement on the vote follows:

"As we honor America's veterans, I am pleased that Republicans and Democrats came together to support legislation that will help put our returning heroes back to work. Our veterans face many challenges as they transition back to civilian life, including difficulty in finding employment. The unemployment rate for veterans who left active duty after 9/11 is 12.1 percent.

"While this legislation is a positive step, Congress and the Administration can help veterans - and all Americans - even more by getting the economy moving again. I'm hopeful that today's vote marks the beginning of a bipartisan effort to pass responsible, pro-growth measures that will help our economy - including tax reform, regulatory reform, reducing America's massive debt, and strengthening our entitlement programs."
