McCollum on the Possible Exclusion of Independence Party From Minnesota's General Election Ballot
Monday, September 20, 2004

"While American soldiers and Iraqi citizens are struggling to secure stability and bring legitimacy to a future government of Iraq through free and open elections, here in Minnesota and across the country, we cannot take our open democracy for granted.

"The exclusion of the Independence Party from the general election ballot in no way enhances the democratic process in Minnesota.

"I strongly believe that all voices should be heard, regardless of political party, and allow the voters of Minnesota to decide.

"Democracy belongs to the people - all the people. In this election, with so much at stake, Minnesota voters deserve to have all voices heard.

"As we witness Americans and Iraqis giving their lives for the prospect of democracy in Iraq, we need to defend the democratic process here in Minnesota."
