Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., voted to protect West Virginia jobs by reining in the EPA which continues to abuse its regulatory authority in the name of advancing a "green agenda.' H.R. 2250, the EPA Regulatory Relief Act, passed with bipartisan support by a vote of 275 to 142.
"The EPA's unachievable compliance timelines have already caused plants in West Virginia to announce layoffs and facility closures. With the jobless rate at or above 8% for over two-and-a-half years, the Administration should not be adding more people to the unemployment line in the name of a "green agenda,'" stated Capito. "This legislation upholds our responsibility to keep our air and water clean without destroying jobs or causing energy prices to soar."
The bill also compliments Capito's amendment--which passed the House in June--to require the EPA to consider jobs and economic impact when making decisions. H.R. 2250 would require the EPA Administrator to establish compliance dates for relevant standards after considering such things as compliance costs, the availability of equipment, suppliers, and labor, and potential net employment impacts.
