Van Hollen Applauds Domestic Violence Funding for Montgomery County

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen applauded the announcement that Montgomery County will receive $998,955 from the Grants to Encourage Arrest Policies and Enforcement of Protection Orders Program. The program, which is part of the Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women, enhances victim safety and offender accountability in cases of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

"Montgomery County has been a leader in tackling the issue of domestic violence, and this grant will allow the County to continue to work with non-profits in the community to provide critical services to victims and their families, as well as improve the process of holding offenders accountable," said Congressman Van Hollen. "In the 17 years since Congress passed the Violence Against Women Act, we've made important progress in both prevention and treatment -- but there is more work to be done. This funding is part of that ongoing effort."
