Today Rep. Gary Peters encouraged military servicemembers and veterans that served under stop loss conditions to apply for the benefits they've earned.
Troops, veterans and beneficiaries of servicemembers who were involuntarily extended under stop loss between September 11th, 2001 and September 30th, 2009 are eligible for a retroactive stop loss special payment of $500 for every month/partial month served in stop loss status. The deadline for application is October 21st, 2011 so eligible parties are urged to apply quickly.
"The men and women that have served in uniform and their families have sacrificed tremendously for us over the last ten years," said Rep. Gary Peters. "I encourage all of our troops, veterans and beneficiaries of servicemembers that served under stop loss conditions to apply for the benefits that they have earned before October 21st."
The funding for troops that served under stop loss was part of the 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Act which Rep. Peters helped pass.
