Letter to Patrick R. Donahoe, Postmaster General

Letter

Dear Mr. Donahoe

We are deeply concerned about the Postal Service's proposal to consolidate all but one of the mail processing facilities in West Virginia. It is clear that the Postal Service needs to make some difficult decisions to improve its budget outlook, but we are asking that you give full and serious consideration to the impact that any proposed consolidation would have on West Virginia workers.

We are hopeful that as the Postal Service moves forward with these consolidation studies, it will carefully consider how West Virginia postal employees would be adversely affected. In the event that the Postal Service makes the decision to implement these consolidations, we strongly urge you to do everything possible to minimize the negative effects on workers, and provide for a successful transition for any employees who are displaced.

Finally, as the Postal Service considers consolidating mail processing facilities across the country. we ask you to take a serious look at locating additional mail processing operations in West Virginia. We continue to believe strongly in the efficiency and dedication of our West Virginia postal workers. and we believe that these workers can be an excellent resource for the Postal Service as it seeks to do more with less. We know that West Virginia workers stand ready to help meet the Postal Service`s needs in this difficult time.

We hope that you will keep us informed as these consolidation studies move forward, immediately advise us of any final decisions that are made, and provide us with any and all available information about how these consolidations will improve the financial position of the Postal Service.
