Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee and member of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 103,000 jobs in September and the unemployment rate remained at 9.1 percent.
"While today's jobs report is positive news and better than many expected, it is clear we have we have a long way to go before our economy has fully recovered. That is why our focus must continue to be on creating jobs and helping the millions of families who are struggling to make ends meet, and any comprehensive deficit reduction plan must include a jobs component. Every day that the economy is stalled is another day that the American people are hurting and another day that the deficit is growing. The fastest, most effective way to reduce the deficit in the short-term is to put people back to work and kick start our economic recovery."
