Wildfires and the Texas Forest Service

Statement

Sadly, this year has brought a historic drought to Texas and enabled the massive wildfires that have blazed across the state, scorching thousands of acres, destroying homes and, most tragically, leading to the loss of at least four lives.

However, were it not for the incredible work of hundreds of men and women who fought back the flames, the impact of these fires could have been even more devastating. Last Thursday, I visited the Texas Forest Service in College Station, where I was briefed on the status of the wildfires and given a demonstration of the tools the TFS use to predict, respond to, and analyze fires across the state. Their diligence is unwavering and they, along with all of those who helped combat these fires, deserve our gratitude for the way they've responded to this crisis.

These wildfires, along with the drought, have brought a lot of suffering to folks across our state, and it's our responsibility -- as friends, neighbors and fellow Texans -- to make sure they're taken care of. I'm going to keep doing everything I can to make sure that Texans get the help they need and deserve from the federal government.
