CRAPO: "INCREDIBLE SCENES," BUT WAR CONTINUES
Washington, DC - Idaho Senator Mike Crapo issued the following statement today regarding the images of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's statue being pulled down by Iraqis and U.S. troops in Baghdad:
"There can be no question that the events of today show a tremendous number of Iraqis support and hope for their liberation. They want our coalition troops to be there to liberate them. There cannot be anything more symbolic that the toppling of Saddam Hussein's statue, showing that our objective is to topple this regime and liberate the Iraqi people.
"We need to remember in the midst of all this, however, that we are seeing just one slice of the battle in Baghdad. We still have a tremendous number of areas in Iraq where the battle is still going on, the war is still going to be quite lengthy, and I hope that Americans don't get the feeling that because they've seen these incredible scenes today that the war is all over."
