Webster Statement on September 11th Anniversay

Statement

Date: Sept. 10, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Daniel Webster (FL-08) today released the following statement regarding tomorrow's tenth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks on our nation:

"Ten years ago, the relatively peaceful lives of Americans were brought to a terrifying standstill with a horrifying attack on our nation. The war that we found ourselves engaged in on that morning was crystallized as we watched thousands of our American brothers and sisters perish in the collapse of the World Trade Center towers, in the fires at the Pentagon and in a crash site in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Terrorists had schemed and executed an elaborate plan to wreak havoc in our society and tear down the United States of America.

"However, though America had been brought to her knees, her people had remained undefeated. Through faith and commitment to each other, the citizens of this nation refused to crumble under the attack and instead stood shoulder-to-shoulder to face down this brutal enemy. We refused to be divided, and instead united as one to bear each other's burdens, grieve with those who lost all, and encourage those who defended our country.

"What was intended to be a day of destruction for America turned into a day in which the world witnessed the character of a people who refused to buckle to the enemy, growing more resolute in their commitment to freedom. Out of the rubble and destruction rose a nation, stronger and more committed to the right of all people to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. On this tenth anniversary of that attack, let us all reflect with honor on those who died that day, those who have since fallen in defense of our nation, and let us renew with great fervor a love for our country and an assurance of our belief that Americans, united around our common values, will never be defeated," said Congressman Daniel Webster.
