Letter to The Honorable Peter T. King Chairman Committee on Homeland Security

Letter

Date: Sept. 9, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Dear Chairman King:

Last night in his address to Congress, President Barack Obama set forth an aggressive legislative agenda aimed at strengthening our Nation's economy and creating job opportunities for hardworking Americans.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has felt the consequences of the economic downturn, with budget constraints and decreased trade revenue resulting in funding cuts for key programs and personnel. Therefore, I am writing to request that the Committee on Homeland Security hold immediate hearings on the President's legislative proposals and their potential effect on DHS and related stakeholders.

My Democratic colleagues on the Committee and I look forward to working with you to do our part to support job creation and a more robust economy, which is so vital to all Americans.

Sincerely,

Bennie G. Thompson
