DeLauro Statement on CBO Projected Deficit for FY'04

WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today released the following statement in response to the Congressional Budget Office's (CBO) projection that the economy will have a $422 billion deficit this fiscal year - the largest in the nation's history.

"The fact that our country is facing a record deficit when three years ago the CBO projected a record surplus proves that the economy is rapidly spiraling downward as a result of the economic policies of the Bush Administration.

"Congressional leaders should be discussing ways in which to help boost our economy not touting tax cuts that have only weakened it.

"It is time to end the juggernaut that has created a record deficit, record unemployment and a record number of Americans without health insurance."
