Capito Statement On Key Component Of Healthcare Law Deemed Unconstitutional

Today, Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., released the following statement regarding the ruling by the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals that the individual mandate component of the healthcare law is unconstitutional:

"Today a federal appeals court in Atlanta ruled what we've known all along: bureaucrats in Washington cannot force Americans to buy something against their will. I defer to the Court's decision and hope the Supreme Court will weigh in on this important debate.

"In January, I voted to repeal the job-destroying healthcare law which includes costly regulations and an unprecedented government intrusion into the doctor-patient relationship.

"I have promoted commonsense reformslike enacting meaningful medical liability reform, allowing Americans to buy insurance across state lines and promoting wellness and prevention. These simple solutions are attainable without a complete government-takeover of the healthcare system that Americans neither want nor can afford."
