Participates in Congressional Public Service Announcement Campaign with son, Michael McNerney
Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11), together with his son, Michael McNerney, recently recorded a public service announcement (PSA) to bring awareness to skin cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. More than 68,000 Americans are diagnosed with melanoma every year and another 48,000 are diagnosed with an early form of the disease that involves only the top layer of skin.
"I'm glad for this opportunity to help raise awareness about skin cancer with my son, Mike," said Rep. McNerney. "Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. It's even affected our family. That's why this public service announcement is personally important to me."
"As Californians, we enjoy the great outdoors and the many days of sunshine," continued Rep. McNerney. "There are easy steps, however, that we can all take to reduce our risk of skin cancer. I hope people will see this public service announcement and remember to wear a hat and sunscreen, just like I do."
