Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., Senior Member of the House Transpiration and Infrastructure Committee, released the following statement regarding temporary funding of the Federal Aviation Administration:
"With unemployment at or above eight percent for an alarming 29 consecutive months, the government has no business furloughing hard-working FAA employees in the name of politics. I am pleased that the Senate came to its senses and passed the House's FAA funding bill.
"I am disappointed, however, that the Senate waited this long to act. If the Senate could have passed the House's bill while continuing to fund airports in rural areas all along, why did they insist on furloughing 4,000 FAA employees for nearly two weeks? It's this kind of politicking that infuriates the American people.
"If we can learn anything from this scenario, it's that it's time to pass a long-term, bipartisan and fair FAA reauthorization and give the aviation industry the certainty it deserves to operate effectively."
